Sony BMG Names Legal Chief

Mandil to set worldwide policies.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment has named Daniel Mandil as executive VP/global general counsel/secretary. Mandil is based in New York and reports to Sony BMG CEO Andrew Lack.

Mandil joins Sony BMG from the New York and Washington, D.C.-based law firm of Covington & Burling, where he was a partner in the litigation and technology, media and communications groups. His clients included General Electric and Zomba Records, among others.

In his new role, Mandil will establish overall legal policy for Sony BMG worldwide, as well as overseeing operations within the law department. He will also serve as Sony BMG's liaison to domestic and international music-industry trade groups on a wide variety of legal issues, and will play a key role in the company's government-relations initiatives.
