Shout! Factory Gets Funding

Label looking to acquire catalogs.

Los Angeles-based Shout! Factory has received a large investment from venture capital firm Beringea LLC. A source close to the deal says the amount is "in the neighborhood of $5 million."

Shout! Factory, founded in 2003 by former Rhino Entertainment executives Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos, intends to use the investment to increase its catalog offerings. A spokesperson says the label is actively pursuing catalog acquisitions.

This month, Sony-distributed Shout! Factory began its rollout of its "Herb Albert Signature Series." Through May 2006, Shout! will release 14 Albert reissues. In March, Shout! Factory will issue a new album from Solomon Burke, as well as a two-CD set documenting the career of eccentric Thirteen Floor Elevators frontman Roky Erickson.

The label is also active in the DVD department, and has recently begun rereleasing such television series as "SCTV" and "Freaks and Geeks."
