U.K.'s MKG Takes On Academy Name

Venue operator looking to expand.

London-based venue operator McKenzie Group (MKG) has rebranded itself as Academy Music Group Limited.

The move follows an August 2004 management buyout at MKG. The company operates the 4,900-capacity Carling Academy Brixton venue in south London, plus smaller Academy-branded venues in Birmingham, Bristol, north London and Glasgow, Scotland. It also operates the 2000-capacity Shepherd’s Bush Empire in west London.

In a statement issued today (Feb. 15), AMG CEO John Northcote says, “The new company name reflects our core business and expanding venue portfolio.” The company is looking to increase the number of venues it operates during 2005. According to Northcote, it will also pursue “strategic growth” in new music-related areas.
