Fonovisa Plans Anniversary Campaign

Fonovisa Records, previously the top-selling Latin indie label in the United States, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an ambitious, year-long release schedule.

Under the slogan "Fonovisa 25 Aniversario: La Historia de los Exitos" (Fonovisa 25th Anniversary: The Story of the Hits) Fonovisa will re-release classic albums as well as a series of multi-artist compilations throughout the year. The label, which houses some of the biggest names in regional Mexican music-including Los Tigres del Norte, Marco Antonio Solís and Banda El Recodo will also dedicate each month of the year to key acts, beginning with Los Temerarios in February.

All Fonovisa product for 2009 will be stickered with a 25th anniversary logo. "We want to talk about Fonovisa as the single most influential independent record company in the US that grew and developed stars," says Gustavo López, president of Fonovisa/Disa. "We're going to mine its 25 years, going back all the way to the beginning."

Fonovisa's anniversary schedule will be supported by major television and Internet campaigns. Fonovisa, whose share of the U.S. Latin market was 16.32% in 2008, is now owned by Universal Music Group, which purchased it as part of its acquisition of the Univision Music Group last year.
