The country superstar will also take the stage for a highly anticipated performance at the April 29 awards show.
Garth Brooks will be honored with the Icon Award at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards on April 29, dick clark productions and NBC announced Wednesday (Feb. 26). And that's not all: The country legend and 19-time BBMA winner will also deliver a performance during the ceremony.
Over his decades-long career, Brooks became the first artist to have appeared on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in the '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s and '20s. His debut album's first single, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)," entered the chart in 1989 at No. 94 (when the ranking ran 100 positions deep) and peaked at No. 8 that July, marking Brooks' first of 36 top 10s. Brooks has also earned nine No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, the most of any country artist.
Brooks joins previous honorees Cher, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey.
