1. Texting Bruno Mars for Insider Tips
For your pleasure, Katy Perry's full text to previous Super Bowl performer Bruno Mars, which she shared with Billboard:
"Hello, exclusive Super Bowl club member! I was wondering if you are in L.A. at all this month and would have tea with a sister who is about to throw up with nervousness re: [football emoji]. I've heard about your process through our managers, but am wondering if you had more insight on important things like, spray tan the night before or three nights before? JK, or maybe not!"
2. Studying Super Bowl Masters Beyonce & Madonna
The pop star is reviewing past halftime show performances from Madonna and Beyonce. Perry says she appreciates that they kept the songs "about the catalog" versus new material, and she lauded Madonna's "'graphic effects." As for Beyonce, Perry gushes, "She brought so much strength, so much sassiness and just the right amount of sex." But let's be clear: Katy knows she won't reach Beyonce levels during the Bowl. "She's like five notches above me, and those levels are compounded in difficulty."
3. Getting Massages
In addition to physical therapy for her knees, Perry is taking care of her body with massages, acupuncture and "steam for my voice." But she still multi-tasks: At one point, Billboard witnessed her getting a massage for her hamstring while simultaneously critiquing her dancers' outfits.
4. Controlling Her Dancers' Cleavage
In fact, Perry is keeping close tabs on how much chest her dancers are showing. "Your boobies are a little too much for that," Perry told one dancer while speaking to Billboard. "Show Sarah!" she instructed her, referring to Sarah Moll, who runs the halftime show for the NFL.
5. Choosing the Right Guests
As with most of the country, Perry is aware of past Super Bowl controversies involving Janet Jackson and M.I.A.'s middle finger. "You can't control other people, and hopefully they're on the same path with you," Perry says of her guest list, which includes Lenny Kravitz and an unnamed "throwback" female. "My special guests don't have any agenda other than the music."
