Raekwon & Ghostface Killah Announce 'Only Built 4 Cuban Linx' Documentary, 'Purple Tape Files'
Raekwon and Ghostface Killah visited Sundance over the weekend to preview their new documentary, Purple Tape Files, chronicling the creation and influence of Raekwon's solo debut album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...
Looking ahead to the album's 20-year anniversary this summer, the two Wu-Tang Clan members premiered a trailer for the film and announced the film would be fan-supported through the FanBacked.com website.
Twitter It's official, I released the trailer at Sundance for our documentary #ThePurpleTapeFiles .... This is just the beginning. ..-- Raekwon The Chef (@Raekwon) January 25, 2015
In an interview with Complex, the duo stressed they would give fans the feeling of what it was like to be in the studio actually recording the album and with the help of crowd-sourcing could dictate the project's direction as they know the truth.
"We wanted to do it organic," said Raekwon. "Not having somebody come in and tell us what they think we should do."
Raekwon also announced another preview coming to Los Angeles on Feb. 7. Fans can receive more information on the project here.
What appeared to be a trailer for the film surfaced online later Monday, showing Raekwon and other members of Wu-Tang talking about early hip-hop and growing in Staten Island. But Raekwon later said online that was not the official trailer. Regardless, you can watch it below:
