John Cena & Wiz Khalifa Team Up on 'WWE 2K15' Video Game Soundtrack
The wrestler and the rapper have two songs together: "All Day" and "Breaks."
Atlantic Records will release the soundtrack for WWE 2K15 on Oct. 21. The first-ever soundtrack for a WWE video game, WWE 2K15 features 12 tracks from established and rising artists from the genres of hip-hop, rock and country, including "All Day" and "Breaks," the new songs Cena recorded with Khalifa.
"It was very cool to work with Wiz Khalifa and combine my East Coast style of flow and his laid back West Coast vibe," Cena wrote in an email from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. "Wiz and I are both are so dedicated to our craft that we never stop hustling to give our fans more, that is what the song ("All Day") is about."
Artists who have yet to break in the U.S. -- U.K. sensation Rudimental, the Australian duo Knife Party and country rapper Big Smo -- are among the artists included on the soundtrack and within the game.
"By using artists with a large fan bases overseas and promoting that fact, WWE and (game producer) 2K are also able to add value to their foreign marketing and promotion campaigns as well," says Kevin Weaver, president of film and television and executive vp of the Atlantic Records Group.
"Without question, we see an alignment between the bands, the game and the WWE brand as being a valuable component in our overall plan to introduce fans to the bands in America."
Nine years ago, as Cena was winning his first championship belt, he cracked the top 20 on the Billboard 200. Cena & Tha Trademarc's rap album, You Can't See Me, debuted and peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 385,000 copies since its release in May 2005.
Florida Georgia Line, whose "This Is How We Roll" (feat. Luke Bryan) is in the game but not on the soundtrack, discussed the game and the song during their stint as guest commentators on September's Night of Champions. The country group will perform at this year's Tribute to the Troops show, being held Dec. 9, on NBC.
"We believe in long term relationships with bands/artists and I assure you this isn't the last time you'll see Wiz Khalifa involved with WWE," says Neil Lawi, senior vp and general manager, WWE Music Group. "I applaud John for selecting music that reaches across all genres of music and giving us the opportunity to work with these artists in a variety of ways. Maybe you'll see one performing at WrestleMania next year, who knows?"
WWE 2K15 is scheduled for release on PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 on Oct. 28 in North America, Oct. 31 internationally. Versions for PlayStation4 and Xbox One are scheduled for Nov. 18 in North America and Nov. 21 internationally.
