Pittbull vs. Shakira: Whose World Cup Song Is Best?

In 2006, Shakira sang and belly-danced to “Hips Don’t Lie” with Wyclef Jean (as he was still known) at the World Cup closing ceremony in Berlin. The song earned Shakira her only Billboard Hot 100 no. 1 to date, with sales of 3.6 million.

Shakira performed “Waka Waka” at the 2010 closing ceremony in Johannesberg with South African group Freshly Ground.

“La La La,” a version of the single “Dare” from Shakira’s latest album, took off after a video for the “Brazil 2014” mix featuring Carlinhos Brown was posted on YouTube, where it has bested Pitbull’s official World Cup song “We Are One” with over 224 million views.

YouTube views have risen since Sunday’s televised performance in Rio, where Shakira proved she is still the global World Cup music champion.
