June 8: Demi Lovato serves as grand marshal during the 44th annual Los Angeles Pride parade in West Hollywood, California.

Musician Demi Lovato has always been a strong supporter of gay rights and the LGBT community, making appearances at both Los Angeles’ and New York’s Pride Parades. This week, Lovato deepened the connection by revealing that her grandfather was gay.

At Logo TV’s “Trailblazers Awards”, Lovato presented an award to Netflix’s Orange is the New Black and spoke about her family ties. “My grandfather was a trailblazer himself. He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s, and I feel that a lot of my spirit has come from him.”

The “Trailblazers Awards” airs this Thursday (6/26) at 9PM ET.

The event, Logo TV’s first, took place in New York earlier this week and celebrates the celebrities and communities that have furthered the LGBT cause.
