A bug in Twitter's inner-workings has caused certain tweets to disappear, including some from music's biggest stars. The problem impacted the accounts of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, members of One Direction and surely many ordinary Twitter users throughout a roughly 12-hour period yesterday (March 25).

"We are currently researching a bug that has caused some Tweets to not be displayed," Twitter announced on its status page last night. Most of the tweets have been restored, though some photos associated with tweets continue to be missing in action.

The lost tweets (since restored) included Justin Bieber paying respects to a deceased fan, One Direction's Louis Tomlinson tweeting at bandmate Harry Styles and this photo Lady Gaga tweeted of herself with Miley Cyrus:

According to BBC News, several Twitter users also reported the last tweet sent by deceased "Glee" star Cory Monteith had also disappeared.

When the tweets were missing, clicking on their links would lead to an error message saying, "Sorry, that page does not exist."

Even the most retweeted picture of all-time, Ellen Degeneres' famous selfie from the Academy Awards, was not immune. The group shot disappeared for a time, but has since returned, with its over 3 million retweets and nearly 2 million favorites intact.

Also this month, a botched upgrade prevented many users from being able to log into their accounts and receive tweets from mobile apps.
