Sub Pop Unveils iTunes Label Store, Host of Remastered and New-to-Digital Music Ahead of 25th Anniversary Celebrations

Sub Pop is celebrating its 25th birthday with The Silver Jubilee

Sub Pop – the celebrated indie label responsible for countless musical touchstones over its history – and iTunes today unveiled a significant digital push ahead of its birthday celebrations this weekend. The companies have created a new label page within iTunes, releasing a trove of remastered albums, a selection of singles previously unavailable in digital format and a compilation of 102 songs, titled Sub Pop 101 – a nod to the label's first LP, the Sub Pop 100 compilation released in 1986 – which serves as a cross-section of the label's discography. (A complete list of the new digital releases can be found below.) The store and the re-releases are all part of the label's 25th anniversary, which they plan to cap off with a mini-festival this coming Saturday in Seattle which they're calling The Silver Jubilee and will feature many artists on Sub Pop's current roster as well as art, comedy, and much more.

In addition to the iTunes page and this weekend's celebrations Sub Pop also announced an edition of the popular Toms Shoes brand. Each pair includes a music sampler in addition to Toms' standard "buy one donate one" charity model.

In less celebratory recent news, Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's. Poneman said he was "grateful" to the disease; "My love of life and its precious elements became more vivid at the thought of seeing them fade away."
