ADA Adds New West, Sumerian Records to Distribution Roster (Exclusive)

Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), the music distribution arm of Warner Music Group, has lured two new independent labels to its growing stable of distribution clients. Alt-country/Americana label New West Records and hard rock purveyor Sumerian Records have both partnered with ADA for exclusive physical and distribution rights in the United States.
New West’s roster includes Richard Thompson, Drive-By Truckers and Ray Davies, in addition to the CDs and DVDs produced by the PBS program “Austin City Limits” and the Grammy- and Academy Award-winning soundtrack to the 2009 film “Crazy Heart.”
Forthcoming albums from New West’s Patty Griffin and Steve Earle & the Dukes (and Duchesses) will be released under the new agreement with ADA.
“From John Hiatt and Richard Thompson to the Whigs and Tom Morello -- all of us at ADA are enormous fans of New West’s releases,” ADA president David Orleans said in a statement. “George Fontaine and his team consistently discover and deliver some of the greatest music in the world, and have been at it for two decades now. It’s a great honor to be working with a label of this caliber.”
Los Angeles-based Sumerian Records is home to metalcore band Asking Alexandria, the Dillinger Escape Plan and Ice-T’s infamous hardcore group Body Count, among other acts.
“Sumerian Records’ unique approach to artist development has made the label a major force in the hard rock and metal scene,” Orleans said. “We look forward to a deep and lasting partnership with Ash and his talented team, as Sumerian continues to grow by signing incredible new bands and nurturing the long-term careers of established names.”
New West and Sumerian were previously clients of Sony’s RED distribution, ADA’s chief competitor.
WMG’s distribution arm has been on something of a streak recently. In November it signed indie rap duo-turned Billboard chart-toppers Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to a distribution and synch-licensing deal, and inked Portland, Ore.-based label Tender Loving Empire to a distribution deal.
