Shudder's Creepshow apparently wasted no time in yanking an unaired episode that was set to feature Marilyn Manson. Greg Nicotero, the showrunner and executive producer of the horror anthology, told reporters at the Television Critics Association's 2021 winter press tour Thursday (Feb. 18) that it wasn't a difficult decision.
"I found out about it at the same time everybody else did," Nicotero shared of how he heard about actress Evan Rachel Wood naming the shock rocker as her abuser in early February. "I don't think there was a moment where we didn't want to do the right thing and pull the episode. I don't think we thought about it more than four seconds. There were some great actors in that episode as well. We stand by the decision; we stand by the support that that shows."
The show boss also revealed that the decision did have a bit of an impact on season two. "We did a little bit of restructuring and we pulled an episode up starring Molly Ringwald called 'Sibling Rivalry,'" he shared. "It's really fun and really good. We just had to keep going."
On Feb. 1, Wood wrote in a statement posted to her Instagram account that she was "done living in fear of retaliation, slander or blackmail," and accused her ex-fiance of abuse. She alleged that he started grooming her when she was a teen, and "horrifically abused" her for years. After she came forward with her allegations, several other women also claimed that the rocker abused them.
Manson denied the allegations in his own statement posted to Instagram. "Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality," he wrote Feb. 1. He continued by saying that all of his intimate relationships are always "entirely consensual."
Since Wood named Manson -- born Brian Warner -- as her abuser, Manson has been dropped by his record label, manager and talent agency, and also removed from upcoming episodes of Creepshow and American Gods.
Billboard made earlier attempts to reach Manson for comment through his now former manager, but never received a response.
