Francisco Martin has enjoyed some fine moments in this, the eighteenth season of American Idol.
With the TV talent show hitting a brief pause, ABC opened the vaults and unearthed some of the best performances in recent months.
Martin was a standout from his audition. Don’t believe us, see for yourself. In a never-before-seen clip, the teen singer and songwriter performs Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody.” It hits the spot and the three judges get all worked up, none more so than Luke Bryan sings along.
In the newly-released clip, Katy Perry insists he’s “top 10” material, Lionel Richie and Bryan peg him as “top 5” stuff. Bryan reveals his thoughts when he holds up a handwritten note containing a single word, “Winner.”
And with that, the young artist scores a ticket to Hollywood Week.

In a second clip, the San Francisco native admits in the preamble: “The nerves have been getting to me this week, all week. But this performance, I’m putting all the nerves behind me.”
And that’s exactly what he does, as the nineteen-year-old delivers a sweet performance of an original song “Lover,” shot in the solo round earlier in the season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Idol schedule has been revised. Going forward, participants will perform remotely and judges will pass their assessments from home.
The next round begins this Sunday (April 26).
