Andre Rieu’s rendition of Beethoven’s "Ode To Joy" was adopted as the Council of Europe's anthem in 1972. Nearly 50 years later, the song is gaining momentum on UK's Official Singles Chart -- thanks to Brexit.
As the European Parliament backed terms of the Brexit deal on Wednesday (Jan. 29), pro-Europeans are campaigning to make a statement by getting "Ode to Joy" to No. 1 on the chart (it's currently at No. 58).
Caroline Voaden, Leader of Liberal Democrat MEPs, is one of the campaigners. She took to Twitter to encourage her followers to buy and stream the song, which is featured on the Dutch composer's My Music - My World best of album.
"Let’s make sure the EU anthem is No. 1 on January 31st," she wrote. See it below.
