Hayley Kiyoko is making the most of her first-ever trip to the MTV Video Music Awards. Not only did the rising star win her first moonperson for Push artist of the year, but Kiyoko showcased her performance skills with her pop banger “Curious.” The singer did a quick performance of the queer anthem that aired during the show, delivering signature dripping-in-swagger dance moves in front of a gang of backup dancers.
During the telecast preshow, Kiyoko received the Push artist of the year, beating out SZA, Khalid, Lil Xan and several others. "This validates any queer woman of color that you can follow your dreams,” Kiyoko said in an impromptu acceptance speech on the pink carpet.
Ahead of the awards, Kiyoko told Billboard, "I’m really excited to be there and I’m excited to be nominated. It makes me feel like I’m finally invited to the popular table. I’m ready to sit down and hang out."
