"Theme From Shaft" from Shaft, 1971
John Shaft may have been one bad mother, but in 1971 Isaac Hayes was pretty impressive himself. His funky theme song to Shaft garnered him the first Best Original Song given to an African American composer. The track is now more iconic than its film, showing up in countless television shows and movies as a nostalgic nod to blaxploitation cinema.
