British singer/songwriter Newton Faulkner capped his impressive emergence as a U.K. chart presence yesterday (Aug. 26) by following the top 10 single "Dream Catch Me" (Ugly Truth) with a No. 1 debut for the album "Hand Built by Robots." Meanwhile on the singles chart, Kanye West snagged a second week at No. 1 with the Daft Punk-sampling "Stronger" (Def Jam).
T-Pain's "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" climbs 3-1 on the Billboard Hot 100 to earn the Florida native his first chart-topper there. The cut is the chart's greatest airplay gainer for a seventh straight week, the longest such streak since Beyonce's "Baby Boy" featuring Sean Paul had an equal run in 2003. "Drank" is also No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a third week in a row.
Timbaland's "Give It to Me" featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake begins a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, fending off Akon's former chart-topper "Don't Matter," which is No. 2 for a second week. Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" achieves a new peak with a 6-3 move; the song has resided in the top 10 during each of its seven chart weeks.
