Eminem regains the leadership of the European Albums chart with "Recovery" (Interscope/Universal), while "California Gurls," (Virgin) by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg , begins a third week at No. 1 on European Hot 100 Singles.
"Recovery" spent its first two weeks atop Billboard's pan-European album chart before falling to No. 2 last week. It's back at the summit thanks in part to a similar 2-1 return in the United Kingdom, where weekly sales of 49,000 (only 2,000 down from the previous week) make for a four-week total of 309,000. The album holds at No. 1 in Ireland and Switzerland and No. 2 in Germany, Norway, Austria and the Belgian region of Flanders.
Eminem thus trades places Europe-wide with Kylie Minogue , whose "Aphrodite" (Parlophone/EMI) falls to No. 2 after debuting at the top last week. It posts new entries at No. 6 in Poland and No. 9 in Italy and Sweden, and holds at No. 2 in Switzerland, but falls 1-2 in the United Kingdom (where sales of 30,000 give it a running total to last weekend of 109,000), 3-8 in Germany and Wallony, 5-8 in Ireland and 3-9 in Austria.
Lady Gaga 's "The Fame" (Interscope/Universal) moves 4-3 overall, climbing 7-5 in both the United Kingdom and Germany, 8-6 in Switzerland and 11-10 in Spain.
Europe's highest new entry of the week, at No. 4, is Korn 's "Korn III: Remember Who You Are" (Roadrunner), which debuts at No. 3 in Austria, No. 4 in Germany, No. 8 in Switzerland and No. 23 in the United Kingdom. The American rock band's last album, 2007's "Untitled," opened on European Albums at No. 3.
David Guetta 's "One Love" (Virgin/EMI) and Enrique Iglesias ' "Euphoria" (Interscope/Universal) swap places on the collective chart at Nos. 5 and 6 respectively. Guetta falls 1-5 in Hungary and 5-10 in Wallony but climbs 6-3 in Spain, 11-7 in Austria, 11-10 in France and 20-19 in Portugal. "Euphoria" spends a second week at No. 1 in Spain and at No. 5 in Holland, climbing 5-4 in Switzerland and 14-7 in Flanders, but it's down 6-11 in the United Kingdom.
In its fourth European chart week, "Can't Be Tamed" (Hollywood/Universal) by Miley Cyrus is down 3-7, despite holding at No. 1 in Portugal and climbing 20-18 in Poland. Unheilig 's "Grosse Freiheit" (Universal) is steady at No. 8 overall for a fourth straight week, resting at No. 1 in Germany, while Muse 's "The Resistance" (Helium 3/Warner Music) continues to bob around the collective top 10, now up 11-9 in its 44th week, as it improves 7-3 in France.
The Katy Perry single is up 4-3 in Italy, 6-4 in Germany, 8-5 in France, 10-6 in Norway, 9-8 in Flanders and stays at No. 1 in Ireland. Lady Gaga's "Alejando" is closing in on it, moving 3-2 on European Hot 100 Singles, while "Airplanes" (Rebel Rock/Atlantic/Warner Music) by B.O.B. featuring Hayley Williams climbs 10-7 after becoming the American artist-producer's second U.K. No. 1 single in two months, only eight weeks after "Nothin' On You," featuring Bruno Mars.
