Representatives for Reed have told "Access Hollywood" that the former Velvet Underground singer did not turn down Boyle's request to sing "Perfect Day" on NBC talent show "America's Got Talent" on Wednesday. Instead, a glitch prevented the song from being performed in an American market, causing Boyle to tearfully leave the stage during the show's taping in Los Angeles.
The report contradicts the widely circulated rumors yesterday (Sept. 9) that Reed refused to allow Boyle to sing "Perfect Day" on the show. While the song was cleared to be performed in the U.K., it was not cleared for a U.S. performance in time.
Boyle was slated to sing "Perfect Day" for the season finale of "America's Got Talent," which is scheduled to air on Tuesday (Sept. 14). A statement on behalf of the singer said that Boyle is "on a plane heading back to London with a heavy heart," and that she "looks forward to being able to perform her new songs very soon."
