Susan Boyle Album Bows At No. 1 In U.K.

Susan Boyle [1]'s sophomore album "The Gift" (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) gave her a second U.K. No. 1 and Rihanna [2]'s "Only Girl (In The World)" (Def Jam/Universal) started a second week atop the singles chart, as the Official Charts Company revealed new sales data.

The Scottish singer's Christmas-themed album follows last year's "I Dreamed A Dream," which became the U.K.'s bestselling album of 2009 despite only being released in November. "Dream" had a monster start with 412,000 sales in the first week, while "The Gift" managed a first week sale of 103,000.

Bon Jovi [3]'s "Greatest Hits" (Mercury/Universal) stayed at No. 2 on the new chart last night (Nov. 14) as last week's bestseller, Cheryl Cole [4]'s "Messy Little Raindrops" (Fascination/Polydor/Universal), fell to No. 3.

James Blunt [5]'s "Some Kind of Trouble" (Custard/Atlantic/Warner Music) started at No. 4, as its single "Stay The Night" continued its slow but steady progress, 32-26. Michael Bublé [6]'s "Crazy Love" (Reprise/Warner Music) moved back 6-5 and Katy Perry [7]'s "Teenage Dream" (Virgin/EMI) 12-9, as her current "Firework" single moved up again 4-3.

Cee Lo Green [8] followed his recent U.K. No. 1 single "Forget You" (Warner Bros./Warner Music) with a No. 10 debut for the album "The Lady Killer." Ray Davies [9]' TV-advertised "See My Friends" (UMTV/Universal), which sees him joined by such guests as Bruce Springsteen [10], Metallica [11] and Mumford & Sons [12] on versions of his Kinks [13] songs, opened at No. 12.

But there was little joy for Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle, whose solo debut album "Insatiable" debuted at a modest No. 47, by contrast to her fellow group member Cole's chart-topping exploits. The title track and first single debuted and peaked at No. 26 last week. The "Insatiable" album was a physical retail exclusive with mass merchant Tesco, while iTunes had the digital exclusive.

The Rihanna single stayed at No. 1 to deny Take That [14] a perfect start with "The Flood" (Polydor/Universal), which began at No. 2 to become the group's 16th top five single. One behind that tally are former "boy band" McFly [15], whose "Shine A Light" (Universal Island), featuring Taio Cruz [16], hit the chart at No. 4.

Mike Posner [17]'s "Cooler Than Me" (J/Sony Music Entertainment) moved back 7-6 while Adele [18]'s "Make You Feel My Love" (XL Recordings), which has been in and around the top 40 in recent weeks after the song was reactivated on "The X Factor," rebounded again 19-9. Contestant Rebecca Ferguson sang the Bob Dylan [19] song on the Nov. 6 edition of the talent series.

Outside the singles top ten, Black Eyed Peas [20] started at No. 11 with "The Time (Dirty Bit)" (Interscope/Universal), former "X Factor" winner Shayne Ward's "Gotta Be Somebody" (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) at No. 12 and Pink [21]'s "Raise Your Glass" (LaFace/Sony Music Entertainment) at No. 13.

The Bon Jovi compilation went straight in at No. 1 on Billboard's composite European Albums chart, while the Rihanna track is in a second week atop European Hot 100 Singles.
