Paul Simon leads a list of artists who have newly signed on to TNT's upcoming tribute to former Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson. Simon, Aimee Mann & Michael Penn, and Matthew Sweet join previously confirmed performers Elton John, Heart's Ann & Nancy Wilson, Beatles producer George Martin, and Wilson himself. Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
As first reported here in December, "An All Star Tribute To Brian Wilson" will tape March 29 at New York's historic Radio City Music Hall. The affair will feature a start-to-finish performance of the Beach Boys' seminal album "Pet Sounds," accompanied by the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra.
In addition, legendary producer Phil Ramone will server as music producer of the event, and actor Dennis Hopper will introduce segments of the special, which will air this summer on TNT.
"The genius of Brian Wilson's legendary body of work makes him a natural subject for the TNT Masters Series spotlight," Sandy Shapiro, vice president and executive producer of TNT Specials said in a statement. "His words and recordings resonate throughout the world of music, and due to his groundbreaking accomplishments as a composer, arranger and producer, he remains a major influence and inspiration to his peers, his contemporaries, and today's most significant artists."
A limited number of tickets -- which range in price from $58 to $178 -- have been sold to members of Radio City's Backstage Access program. A presale offer for American Express Gold cardholders begins tomorrow. Remaining tickets go on sale March 12 via Ticketmaster and the next day at the Radio City box office.
