Columbia R&B artist Maxwell will release his third album, "Now," on Aug. 21, in the midst of a series of seven concerts at different New York venues. "Now" is the follow-up to the 1998 set "Embrya," which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The new album was produced by Maxwell with Hod David and longtime producer/contributing instrumentalist Stuart Matthewman.
"Now" also features extensive work by veteran session guitarist Wah Wah Watson, who has played with Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Herbie Hancock, as well as contributing to the artist's first album, 1996's "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite," which spent 78 weeks on The Billboard 200, peaking at No. 37.
The celebratory performance stint will find Maxwell playing an unprecedented series of seven New York shows at different venues over the course of 12 days, beginning Aug. 13. The artist will be supported at all shows by newcomer Alicia Keys, whose J Records debut album "Songs In A Minor" bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week. Tickets go on sale July 20.
The New York stint will be followed by the first leg of a full-scale U.S. tour set to hit more than dozen cities through October, with full information to be announced. "Get To Know Ya," the lead single from "Now," peaked at No. 25 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart in March.
