Hootie & the Blowfish, Edwin McCain, Sister Hazel, and Seven Mary Three singer Jason Ross will perform Feb. 16 at the Lyrics for Life benefit concert and auction. The event will take place at Atlanta's Earthlink Live, and proceeds will benefit the city's Camp Sunshine, as well as the Stop! Children's Cancer and Rock Against Cancer organizations.
The auction will feature handwritten and autographed lyrics from the Barenaked Ladies, Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins, and others. Among several unique items is a guitar on the back of which singer/songwriter John Mayer wrote lyrics, as well as a drum head on which members of Our Lady Peace wrote lyrics to one of their songs.
The artists will play acoustic sets and share the stories behind their song lyrics. Celebrities such as CBS Sports commentator Daryl Jonhston and Bryan Cox of the NFL champion New England Patriots will also be on hand.
Founded by Sister Hazel frontman Ken Block, the non-profit Lyrics for Life organization stages several events each year to raise awareness of serious illnesses and fund researchers working to find cures. Both of Block's parents are cancer survivors, and his younger brother Jeffrey died after a lengthy battle with the disease.
"I wanted to do something that would make a lasting commitment between the music industry and the fight against cancer," he said in a statement. "Through Lyrics for Life, we've called on fellow musicians, athletes, and celebrities to come together for something cool and different."
Tickets for the event are $100 and $150, and are available via Ticketmaster. The price includes admittance to the concert and the lyrics auction, as well as an open bar.
