Interpol, the Datsuns, the Polyphonic Spree, and the Thrills have signed on for U.K. music magazine NME's Awards Tour 2003, kicking off Jan. 24 in Dublin and wrapping Feb. 9 in London. The final show coincides with NME's annual Carling Awards, set to be handed out Feb. 13 in London.
Interpol will be touring in support of its Matador debut, "Turn on the Bright Lights," which last month peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and No. 8 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums tally. Beforehand, the New York-based rock outfit will play nine North American dates, running from Dec. 5 in Philadelphia through Dec. 21 in New York.
New Zealand's the Datsuns will be plugging their hard-rocking self-titled debut, which is out now internationally but will arrive Feb. 18 in North America via V2. The group wraps a North American tour tomorrow (Nov. 16) in San Francisco and then heads to Europe for 19 shows through Dec. 19 in Aarhus, Denmark.
Dallas' 20-plus member the Polyphonic Spree has drawn acclaim for its vintage pop/psychedelic Good Records debut, "The Beginning Stages of..." Dublin's the Thrills just released their debut Virgin EP, "Santa Cruz (You're Not That Far)," which was dubbed "single of the week" in the Nov. 9 issue of NME.
