The Barenaked Ladies and Train are gearing up to perform on the infamous island of Alcatraz in the San Francisco Bay. The Oct. 16 T-Mobile-sponsored concert will be open to winners of radio promotions and online sweepstakes, and will be cybercast live via t-mobile.com and America Online (keyword: tmobileallaccess).
News of the T-Mobile All Access Alcatraz event was broken last night (Sept. 4) during a simultaneous five concert Webcast of performances by Ashanti in New York, Jason Mraz in Chicago, Fuel in Philadelphia, Live in Dallas and 311 in Los Angeles. The Clear Channel Entertainment-promoted shows were staged by T-Mobile in partnership with Samsung mobile phones.
Fans can win trips and tickets to the show by registering through the Web sites, while existing T-Mobile customers can enter a sweepstakes by submitting text messages to ROCK (7625). Additionally, Clear Channel will conduct a series of on-air giveaways in 24 major U.S. markets, and a prize patrol will spontaneously award customers using T-Mobile's HotSpot "Wi-Fi" service in select Starbucks and Borders Books and Music locations.
As previously reported , the Barenaked Ladies will release their sixth full-length studio album, "Everything to Everyone," Oct. 21 via Reprise. An early intimate theatre tour in conjunction with the album's release is planned, followed by a full-scale North American outing.
Released in June, Train's latest Columbia album, "My Private Nation," debuted at No. 6 on The Billboard 200. The set has sold 433,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The Barenaked Ladies and Train also plan to share a stage Oct. 3 at the Mix 98.5 Mixfest in Boston. That bill features Tori Amos, Duran Duran, Michelle Branch, Dido, Vertical Horizon and Mraz.
