Phish colleagues Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon will hit the road this summer in a band backed by frequent Gordon collaborators the Benevento/Russo Duo. The shows will be co-headlining bills with Phil Lesh and Friends and will kick off July 28 in Raleigh, N.C.
The members of Phish have occasionally made guest appearances at each other's shows in the past two years, but the upcoming tour will be the first extensive collaboration between any of them since the band's August 2004 split.
An Anastasio/Gordon tour will naturally inspire questions about whether Phish is planning to reunite, but as Gordon told Billboard.com last month, "Nothing is percolating in terms of playing. We all get along great but it's rare that the four of us are in the same room together. In pairs we get together, or sometimes three. Even the last meeting was a conference call, but you never know what's going to happen."
Before the tour, Gordon will hit the road with his new country-leaning band Ramble Dove, beginning May 29 in New Haven, Conn. Anastasio will open eight summer shows for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, beginning June 9 in Charlotte, N.C.
