'We're the new generation of music,' says Waka Flocka Flame
Drake 's spring tour, a 27-city U.S. trek that was announced on Thursday (Mar. 22), will include a who's who of white-hot hip-hop artists as openers, with J. Cole , Waka Flocka Flame , Meek Mill , 2 Chainz and French Montana all joining the Canadian rapper. While the run is officially called the Club Paradise tour , 2 Chainz, the recent Def Jam signee formerly known as Tity Boi, tells Billboard that he has another name in mind.
"I'm renaming this tour the Winners Circle," says 2 Chainz. "Everybody on the marquee is at the top of their game right now. Drake, of course, is killing them. And French, Waka, Meek, J.Cole and myself are having a banner year."
Meanwhile, Waka Flocka Flame -- whose next studio effort, "Triple F Life: Friends, Fans and Family," comes out June 12, while the MC is on the Club Paradise run -- says that the lineup came together fairly easily because of the personal bonds the rappers share. "All of us are good friends, and all of us just put it together," he says. "We're the new generation of music, of hip-hop, so why not do it?"
The Club Paradise tour follows the November release of Drake's sophomore album, "Take Care," which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and remains at No. 7 in its 18th week on the tally. With the May 7 kickoff to the tour approaching, 2 Chainz believes that the hip-hop summit will nicely coincide with the release of his debut album for Def Jam.
"The fans are going to get one hell of a show," says the MC. "And the timing is perfect -- just before my album drops. We about to turn up."
