R&B star Trey Songz is returning this summer with new album "Chapter V," and with "Heart Attack," fans have received a rather profane first look. The first single, which contains six angry f-bombs, was unveiled on Songz' official web site on Monday (Mar. 26).
The breakup jam recalls R. Kelly 's oeuvre in its intensity and penchant for trembling vocals, with Songz operating a stuttering beat courtesy of Benny Blanco. "I never knew love would hurt this fuckin' bad/Worst pain that I ever had," he laments before emitting a long, high-pitched yelp.
Last Thursday (Mar. 22), Songz issued a music video for "Sex Ain't Better Than Love," a cut from his 2011 EP "Inevitable." In January, Songz told Billboard.com that the official follow-up to 2010's "Passion, Pain & Pleasure" was being completed in Miami before he kicked off a winter tour supporting "Inevitable."
"I'm definitely trying to leap forward with every album, and with this album, I think it's a leap forward and a leap into the past," said Songz. "I want to embody in this album -- this fifth album, which is very monumental for me -- what I am, where I came from and where I'm going. I… just think it's going to be very fluent, very diverse yet very cohesive album."
While "Chapter V" does not yet have a firm release date, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," a new film version of the slasher classic starring Songz as the lead love interest, will hit theaters in October.
