DeAndre Brackensick was sent packing last night on "American Idol" after receiving the fewest viewer votes.
On Wednesday's '80s episode, the California student, 17, abandoned his trademark falsetto to sing DeBarge's "I Like It," impressing judges and prompting judge Steven Tyler to call him "exceptional."
It wasn't enough to keep the curly-haired vocalist in the competition, however, as the judges -- with the exception of Jennifer Lopez, who was outvoted -- chose not to save Brackensick after hearing his last-chance performance of Stevie Wonder's "Master Blaster."
Lopez offered the singer some last-minute encouragement following elimination. "You're an amazing performer. I stand by that," she said.
Joining him in the bottom three were 28-year-old Elise Testone from South Carolina and 18-year-old Hollie Cavanagh of Texas. There are seven competitors still in the competition, and the show continues next week with performances on Wednesday (April 11) and eliminations on Thursday (April 12).
Last night's "American Idol" also featured U.K. boy band The Wanted, singing their hit "Glad You Came." Watch below.
