For the third straight year, Drake is bringing a hip collection of hip-hop artists to his hometown OVO Fest, set to invade Toronto's Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on Aug. 5. Along with a headlining set from the "Take Care" rapper, the festival will feature performances from The Weeknd , A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz . As Drizzy puts it , it will be a "special night we've created for the greatest city...Toronto."
The Weeknd, who collaborated with Drake on four songs from sophomore album "Take Care," performed at last year's OVO Fest along with Drake and Rick Ross . Def Jam rapper 2 Chainz, whose debut disc "Based on a T.R.U. Story" is due out Aug. 14, and Harlem MC A$AP Rocky have both been featured on different incarnations of Drake's Club Paradise tour. The OVO Fest was launched in Toronto in 2010, with hip-hop heavyweights like Jay-Z , Eminem and Young Jeezy all hopping onstage during the inaugural event.
"Bringing together the 3rd Annual OVO Fest is such a milestone for me," says Drake in a statement. "A lot has happened over the last three years -- a journey that I'm so grateful for -- but it's always coming home and performing for my hometown that means the most. This year, we're going to bring it just like we do every year-with high energy and music at its best."
"Take Care," which was released last November and was marked by singles such as "Headlines" and "The Motto," was sold 1.75 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In April, Drake told Billboard that he has already started recording the follow-up, and that his third full-length will carry a different tone than the downcast "Take Care."
"Now I'm in a very, very, very, very different place than I've ever been, really focused on myself, really focused on my health, my body, my mind, really wanting to be the best I can possibly be," says Drake. "I'm in a different mindset now that I'm very proud of... It's going to be a very interesting album -- probably, to be honest with you, conceptually one of the most exciting projects I've worked on, just 'cause there's so many new things going on in my life."
