The Latin music GIGANT3S Tour scores a No. 1 ranking on this week's lineup of Hot Tours with over $10 million in ticket sales reported from a late-summer trek. The show, which featured the major star power of Marc Anthony, Chayanne and Marco Antonio Solís, kicked off on August 3 with two sold out shows at Miami's American Airlines Arena to start off a coast-to-coast swing which would take them to arenas in 14 U.S. cities.
Produced by Chicago's Cardenas Marketing Network, gross and attendance figures from the tour's first 10 venues were reported during the past week. From 11 performances, the number of sold tickets totaled 105,783. The Miami engagement, with box office revenue topping $2.7 million, was the only two-show date among these first 10 venues on the itinerary. Among the arenas with single performances, the Izod Center in the metropolitan New Jersey/New York market produced the top gross of $1.3 million from 10,377 sold tickets on August 10.
Maroon 5 takes the No. 3 slot on the Hot Tours chart with revenue reported from three sold out dates on the South American leg of its Overexposed Tour. All three concerts were in Brazilian cities on three consecutive days beginning with a performance at the Expotrade convention center complex in Curitiba on August 24.
The next evening's performance was at Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena with an attendance of 13,550, and the concert on August 26 was an outdoor event in São Paulo drawing a crowd of 29,000. The show was held at Arena Anhembi, a site for concerts and other open-air events at São Paulo's Anhembi Convention Center. Promoted by Evenpro/Water Brother/XYZ Live, the three performances in Brazil grossed more than $4.2 million (US$) from 52,223 sold tickets.
Scoring a fifth place Hot Tours ranking is Mumford & Sons with box office stats reported from one of the band's Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers, a series of seven all-day concert events on three continents. Two of the dates occurred in June in the U.K. and Ireland, and four U.S. cities held Stopovers during August. The American cities hosting the event were Portland, Maine (August 4), Bristol, Tenn. (August 11), Monterey, Calif. (August 25) and Dixon, Ill. with an August 18 event reported this week by Chicago-based concert promoter Jam Productions. Joining the headliners in Dixon were Gogol Bordello, The Very Best, Dawes, Abigail Washburn, Apache Relay, Nathaniel Rateliff and Haim. With a crowd of 15,000 in attendance for the outdoor event, billed as a Camping Stopover, ticket sales revenue topped $1 million.
