Kelly Clarkson has previewed her forthcoming "Greatest Hits - Chapter 1" collection with new single "Catch My Breath," which reflects upon her decade in the spotlight and the compromises she's had to make. The single was released on Wednesday (Oct. 10), and will hit digital retailers next Tuesday.
The song's slow start is a red herring for the upbeat anthem that "Catch My Breath" becomes, with a simple pop-rock arrangement soundtracking Clarkson's can't-hold-me-back declarations. "I've spent most of my time catching my breath, letting it go, turning my cheek for the sake of the show!" she sings, before promising to spend the rest of her days appreciating what she has and being herself.
"This song represents who I've been, what I've felt, and where I'm headed," Clarkson wrote of "Catch My Breath" on her web site last week, "as not only an artist but as a 30 year old that is now smart enough to know that it's time to stop, catch my breath, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today."
"Greatest Hits -- Chapter 1" will be released on Nov. 19 on RCA Records, and will condense Clarkson's five studio albums into one hits-packed LP. The track list for the best-of collection has not yet been released, but will likely include all 10 of the singer's career Top 10 hits, including "A Moment Like This," "Since U Been Gone," and last year's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)."
