"Yes, it was spontaneous," Jenny McCarthy says of her manhandling of Justin
Taylor Swift took home the award for Favorite Country Female Artist (surprise, surprise) while Carly Rae Jepsen won her first. Dick Clark was given a touching tribute by Stevie Wonder, David Guetta won the Favorite Artist - Electronic Dance Music category ("EDM" as Elisha Cuthbert so kindly defined for us while presenting), and Christina Aguilera debuted bangs while on stage with Pitbull. Justin Bieber brought his mom on stage during his acceptance speech for his Artist of the Year award and PSY brought it home "Gangnam/Hammer Style." It was an action packed evening, however not all of it was televised.
Here are just some of the things you didn't see that happened behind-the-scenes at this year's AMAs:
Video From the American Music Awards
Red Carpet Screamers: The fans were out in full force, dying for a chance to catch a glimpse of anything even remotely famous. Those within a 5-mile radius of the Nokia Center could tell when any of the A-listers were arriving based entirely on the decibel of their screams. Taylor Swift's red carpet entrance enticed half of Los Angeles to breakout in a "Taylor, Taylor" chant. Bieber of course got his own… If an applause meter had been running, however, the "Swifties" would have easily been named the victors.
Bieber Exits Early/Taylor Gets Chased: We got the inside scoop from a Cola-Cola waitress that on her end of the carpet (beyond our visibility) Bieber's fans went crazy. After several of the Biebs' fans jumped over the barricade things got scary and they had to forgo a few interviews to escort him away from the chaos. Meanwhile on the carpet, a girl sought out the ultimate birthday present - breaking out of the VIP area and chasing Taylor Swift down the carpet. Swift never acknowledged the girl but security did and apparently did not care that it was her "b-day."
Jordin Sparks Geeks Out on BSB: Jordan Sparks and boyfriend Jason Derulo walked the carpet together and paired up for their interviews (aww). In the middle of one of their Q&As, the Backstreet Boys were chatting with reporters next to them. Seconds later, BSB broke out in song and Sparks had a moment. She turned to Derulo, buried her head in his shoulder and exclaimed, "Oh my gosh! The Backstreet Boys are singing!" Backstreet came over to say "Hi" and Sparks introduced them to Derulo. BSB and Derulo hit it off and discussed possibly doing a collaboration together down the line.
Will.i.am + Britney & Karmin: During our interview with will.i.am, he was sporting two gold rings: one that said "Scream" and the other said "Shout" in honor of his new single with Britney Spears titled "Scream & Shout." He talked about the video that they shot for it a month and a half ago stating: "I don't even want to say the word swag. It's beyond swag." will.i.am appeared again during our interview with Karmin when he made a point to introduce himself to the duo. "We want to work with him! That was a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Amy Heidemann.

An A-List Plug for Condoms: Usher popped into the pressroom where he was congratulated for winning "Soul/R&B Favorite Male Artists." Following the Usher applauding session, someone asked him his thoughts on World AIDS Day coming up. He looked a little stumped, not prepared to answer a Miss America Pageant question and said, "Condoms do work." He was also asked which song he could not stop listening to this year to which he replied, "Climax," adding, "They played it everywhere I went and I had to sing it." Then he gave us a "Peace" as he breakdanced out of the room.
Carly Rae Jepsen Gave the Pressroom a Few Quick Minutes and admitted to singing fun.'s "We Are Young" in the shower. "It's got hooky melodies and it's just a little bit different. I really love it." She also said that she's still getting used to the amount of work and travel involved with her level of success. "It's really gratifying work. I'm not complaining. I quite enjoy it but sometimes it's up to 4 flights in one day and I never would have imagined that." She also remarked that she's excited to be a part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. "I'm looking forward to it. I've been on the hunt for a stylish yet warm coat. I think I may have just found her."
Rejecting The Rej3ctz: Around 7:20pm, a backstage publicist came into the room and asked if anyone would like to interview the singer of The Rej3ctz, explaining "They have Chris Brown in their video and they were almost considered for the pre show." Nobody was into it but they still brought him out. He got the room to clap along while he instructed them how to do the Peter Griffin dance. It was awkward but pretty awesome!
Brandy's Back: Brandy says she's incredibly excited to be back in the music world. "It's just great to be back doing R&B music again and really contributing to that genre and doing what I love to do, she said. After the third person asked her what she was wearing, she blushed and reached into her purse to pull out a piece of paper with the designer's name: "Katerina" something. She mumbled the last name and reporters in the pressroom spent a good twenty minutes trying to Google it - with no luck.
Brandy's Back II: Thirty minutes after we typed #11, Brandy, after being harassed about her designer, came back into the pressroom and handed out a piece of paper with the designer's full name…drum roll…. "Ekaterina Kukhareva" She walked in during PSY's Hammer Time and danced around laughing hysterically.
Luke Bryan vs. PSY: Luke Bryan walked backstage right after PSY's performance and stood on the stage waiting for the press to interview him. Crickets. Absolute crickets - not because we didn't have questions but because everyone was still digesting the evening's final performance. After a delayed reaction, the crowd dove into some hearty questions for Bryan.
Stevie Almost Down! In the hallway backstage The Rej3ctz singer jumped on Stevie Wonder, almost knocking him off balance. Fortunately Stevie had a gentleman supporting him. Wonder also had some backstage stalkers that were following him around and gawking from afar.
Carrie Underwood Brought Her Southern Charm Backstage: When she arrived in the pressroom, at least six people grabbed the microphone with questions that we are convinced that they made up just so they could preface them with, "I love you." Yes Carrie is loved. She also said that her favorite part about award shows is getting to thank people. "I love the chance to thank people. If I am blessed enough to win an award, to get up there and thank my fans is great because they really are our employers. They are the ones that come to the shows and sit there and buy the albums and download the tracks and get into what we do and allow us to all do what we do. Just getting a chance to thank the people that are important in our lives is good. That's the best thing - if you get that chance."
MC Hammer & PSY: A match made in Heaven! The duo pal'd around backstage at the AMAs and posed for photos together. They came backstage and PSY told reporters that it took 4 days for them to pull off the dance routine. Hammer raved about PSY who stood in the corner blushing during most of the interview.
