Although beaten out for No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums by Rihanna 's "Unapologetic," Keyshia Cole 's "Woman to Woman" opens at No. 2 on the chart -- marking her fifth straight top five set. With 96,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, Cole's start is a bit less than the 128,000 that greeted her 2010 set, "Calling All Hearts" -- though the latter album benefited from a release during Christmas week. Additionally, "Woman" second single "Trust and Believe" was downloaded 15,000 times this week, helping it move 39-36 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Rihanna and Cole were the chart's only two debuts in the top 30, though there was a lot of movement in the upper reaches of the tally.
Nicki Minaj 's "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" jumps 14-4 after it was reissued last week with bonus cuts. It moved 36,000 last week for a 591% sales gain. The new version of the album, dubbed "The Re-Up," boasted eight additional songs and had its sales merged with those of the original album. (A standard practice for most reissues.) Thus, all of the sales from the first version and the new title are combined into one entity.
Right above Minaj is Kendrick Lamar 's "good kid, m.A.A.d. city," which holds at No. 3 with 49,000 (up 49%). Ne-Yo 's "R.E.D." slips 4-5 (29,000; up 17%) and the Weeknd 's "Trilogy" falls 1-6 with 28,000 (down 68%).
Minaj wasn't the only artist to jump back into the top 10, as Chris Brown sees his "Fortune" fly 17-8 with 19,000 sold (up 376%). The set was sale priced for $5 for three days last week at Target, hence its handsome gain. Lamar's album was also discounted -- to $7 -- at the retailer.
Over on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this week, the entire top six titles are non-movers, with Rihanna's "Diamonds" holding tight at No. 1 for an eighth straight frame. The song is still miles away from No. 2 -- in terms of chart points -- so it could be a while before Rihanna relinquishes the throne.
One of the more recent entries into the tally's top 10, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop," continues to make gains. This week it skips 8-7 -- a new high -- thanks to strong sales. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs chart, it stays steady at No. 3, but posts its sixth consecutive weekly sales gain. It moved 66,000 downloads last week -- up 11%. Its sales-to-date stand at 417,000.
