Music is undeniable to Mateo. "Music has always been around. My grandpa did music, and my dad's mom was a singer. Everyone played music," Mateo says.
In the video, "How I Got Here," exclusively premiered on The Juice, Mateo gives fans a look at the road to his 2013 debut. The singer-songwriter takes us on the set of an upcoming music video and along for the ride as he visits his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio and stops by media outlets (AOL, Billboard). The video also includes commentary from Mateo, producer, mentor Kerry "Krucial" Brothers and Alicia Keys .
"I'm definitely feeling Mateo," Keys says. "I think he's one of the most innovating young musicians we have a round. He comes into a room and he lights it up. So not only is he a creative and a person who really has something to say and creates his own music, sound and style but he also has that light. That makes you stop and say, 'That's somebody special."
The singer-songwriter is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to his "Suite 823" mixtape. "It's the music that I've always wanted to make. Its got the big drums, the big sound still has that soul & R&B to it," Mateo says of his upcoming 2013 debut album to be released under Interscope Records and Krucial Noise Imprint.
Aside from crafting his album, Mateo is taking the stage at NYC's SOBs on Dec. 19 for the SOL Village soul musicshowcase. Stay tuned to The Juice for another Mateo exclusive on Thursday (Dec. 6).
