Rihanna's  "Loud" album (Def Jam/Universal) achieved its first week at No. 1 on the U.K.'s first sales charts of 2011, as Matt Cardle's "When We Collide" (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) began a third week atop the singles survey. There was more good news for Rihanna as Cardle's single narrowly failed to overtake Eminem's  "Love The Way You Lie" (Interscope/Universal), on which she is featured, as the territory's best-selling single of 2010.
"Loud" debuted at No. 2 in late November and had climbed back there to spend the last two weeks in runner-up spot, but finally reached the summit to end the six-week reign of Take That's  "Progress" (Polydor/Universal). Plan B's  former No. 1 "The Defamation of Strickland Banks" (679/Atlantic/Warner Music) climbed back 21-3 in its 38th week. London rapper Tinie Tempah's  "Disc-overy" (Parlophone/EMI) surged back 26-4 and pop band the Wanted's self-titled Geffen/Universal debut 22-5.
The Take That album was confirmed by the Official Charts Company as the bestselling release of 2010, with sales to the end of Dec. 31 of 1.84 million. Michael Bublé's  "Crazy Love" (Reprise/Warner Music), which fell 3-10 on the new chart, was the year's No. 2 album despite being released in October 2009, with sales of 1.23m in 2010. The bestselling compilation of the year was "Now! That's What I Call Music 77" (Virgin/EMI/UMTV/Universal), with sales of 1.20m.
Cardle's single stayed ahead of Rihanna's "What's My Name," featuring Drake , to continue its singles reign with new sales of 75,000. But its year-end total of 815,000 units was still behind "Love The Way You Lie," on 854,000 units. The year's No. 3 title was Bruno Mars'  "Just The Way You Are (Amazing)" (Elektra/Atantic/Warner Music), on 766,000 units.
