Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith is the subject of a new documentary titled "Love Shines," and Billboard.com has an exclusive clip from the film. Watch below.
In the clip, Sexsmith records his song "Love Shines" with mega-producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi), who nods along in approval. "What's interesting about 'Love Shines,'" Rock says, "the basic message, it's very straightforward. I hear the lyrics, and to me I wonder -- is that Ron speaking or is that Ron observing? Which is a sign of greatness."
"Love Shines" is a look into the recording process of Sexsmith's 11th album, "Long Player Late Bloomer" (released Mar. 1), as the underground legend attempts to make the transition from lesser-known singer-songwriter to commercial fame. The film also includes seven years of inside footage from Sexsmith's life.
The documentary, which features appearances from Steve Earle , Elvis Costello (one of Sexsmith's biggest champions), Kiefer Sutherland and more, will premiere in the U.S. at this week's South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. SXSW showings take place today (Mar. 15) at 6:15 p.m. at the Alamo Ritz 2, and tomorrow (Mar. 16) 16 at 7 p.m. at the Vimeo Theater.
