British singer Cheryl Cole will appear as a judge on TV talent show "The X Factor" in the United States, her spokeswoman said on Thursday, ending months of speculation in the domestic press.
Cole, 27, has been a judge alongside Simon Cowell on the British version of the show for three years, raising her profile as a major celebrity.
But there have been doubts over whether her relatively low profile in the United States, and her Newcastle accent, would limit her appeal there.
Cowell, who is launching the U.S. edition of "The X Factor" on Fox in September, has long championed Cole, and also said he wanted former "American Idol" sparring partner Paula Abdul to join him on the show.
Acid-tongued Cowell and record executive Antonio "L.A." Reid have already been confirmed as The X Factor judges.
