In our latest edition of Tastemakers, Swedish indie rockers Peter Bjorn and John  stopped by Mophonics Studio in New York. The played a handful of tracks off their sixth album, "Gimme Some," and joked about recording an album and playing shows while they were "broken up."
"When we recorded this album, we split up the band. We ended the band's existence," Bjorn Yttling tells Billboard.com. "Actually, we haven't reformed yet, but we're just hanging out."

Peter Bjorn and John, of course, are far from broken up -- in fact, the group has found consistent stateside success since breaking out with their infectious 2006 single, "Young Folks." Although the breezy pop track has sold 686,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan, the Stockholm natives decided to change things up and mix in some new wave nuance on "Gimme Some," the follow-up to their 2009 full-length "Living Thing."
Recorded at Tambourine Studios in Malmoe, Sweden, the band took help from an outside producer, Per Sunding, from the 90s trio Eggstone, an early inspiration for PB&J. "It was a good experience working with a producer for the first time," says, "because we can relax and concentrate on rocking out."

"Gimme Some" -- which has sold 16,000 copies since its March release, according to Nielsen SoundScan -- features unfussy power-pop tracks like "Dig a Little Deeper" and first single "Second Chance," both of which the trio ripped through at Mophonics. Next up for the pranksters? A six-week fall trek, dubbed the All You Can Eat tour, that will bring the infectious sound of "Gimme Some" to various U.S. cities starting Aug. 24 in Chicago.
