SFX Entertainment continues its buying spree in the EDM world with the purchase of music-download site Beatport, a source confirmed to Billboard.biz. The deal was for slightly more than $50 million, the source said, although SFX chief Robert F. X. Sillerman declined to name the price.

Leap Wireless International Inc. plans to spin off its Muve Music service into a separate company, as the carrier attempts to turn around its struggling core business of providing pay-as-you-go wireless service. By creating a new company, Leap hopes to license the service to other carriers and has an agreement in principle with an unnamed international wireless carrier, spokesman Greg Lund said.

Supermarket Morrisons has snapped up six HMV stores from the failed music company's administrators as part of its continuing drive to expand its convenience store operation. The new stores will be converted into Morrisons M local branches and opened this summer, adding to its current roster of 49 former Blockbuster stores and seven former Jessops shops which it bought over the last two months.
Dr Marcus Stephan has been appointed CEO of Nordoff Robbins, the UK-based music therapy non-profit, taking over from Pauline Etkin OBE, who retires at the end of February. Stephan will take up his post at on March 1 and will report to Nordoff Robbins’ Board of Governors, chaired by David Munns OBE.

Tonight “American Idol” will start to use Twitter to take instant polls of the audience. On-screen graphics during the show will ask polling questions like “Do you agree with the judges tonight?” and offer two hashtags with differing answers. Viewers with Twitter accounts can post a comment with one of the two hashtags, and the network and its production partner, FremantleMedia, will update the graphic almost instantly as the results come in.
