The rapper also goes off about Grammys and corporate partnerships.
There's nothing like a rant from Kanye West. The rapper is known to occasionally let off steam during his shows by going off on long freestyles. While performing in London yesterday (Feb. 23), 'Ye took to the mic for a minute, 10-11 minutes to be exact, to express his dislike for Justin Timberlake's Jay-Z assisted single, "Suit and Tie," the Grammys, the music industry and corporate partnerships.
"And I got love for Hov but I ain't fucking with that 'Suit & Tie'," Ye' said, shortly after performing the G.O.O.D. Music track, "Clique."
Oh's and Ah's can be heard through out the stadium after 'Ye dissed the "20/20 Vision" single. Kanye wasn't quite done there, though. He continued on his diatribe, sharing his thoughts on the demands of the music industry, including the Grammy Awards.
"I hate business people. People get on the phone with me and tell me, 'What kind of business can you do, though? What type of business are you doing? What's the numbers? How much did you sell? What's the radio spins? How much shampoo can you sell with your face on it and shit?'" he spit. "Remind me again why we in this shit. Can you remind me again why we in this shit? Since when [is] making music about getting rich? Since when [is] making art about getting rich?... Remind me again why we in this shit. Remind me again why the Grammys couldn't suck my dick."
Mr. West won three Grammy awards this year -- Best Rap Performance, Rap Song (for "Ni--as in Paris," alongside Jay-Z) and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (for "No Church in the Wild," alongside Jay-Z, Frank Ocean and The-Dream) -- but wasn't in attendance to accept them.
Before closing on a lighter, loving note ("Love one another. The way you love your mother, man. The way you should love her"), the rant hit a sarcastic, yet disturbing point when he showed frustration towards sponsorships: "Can I sell a drink for you please? So you can help me put on a better show. Please corporations. Can you please support me? I swear I'm a nice ni--a now. I swear I'll put the pink polo back on. I swear to you. Please. Just for three million dollars. I need it so bad. I need a new pool in my back yard. I tell my fans your shit is cool. And if they believe in me they should also believe in you. What's my public rating now? Are they liking me again? They forgot about the whole Beyonce thing right? Okay cool."
Kanye's rant makes me wonder how much certain events (Grammys, 2009 MTV VMAs) and corporate obligations (or lack there of) weigh on him.
