Twenty years ago, Jermaine Dupri established his long-enduring record label, So So Def Recordings. With every artist that he's signed in the two decades that followed, starting with R&B group Xscape in 1993, the producer/rapper continues to prove the label is a force.
"We was the most challenged group of musicians, I feel, of the 90s to 2000s," Jermaine Dupri told The Juice. "In the beginning of the time of So So Def I was doing so much in Atlanta but a lot of it got missed by publications and media because they had no other reason to come to Atlanta."
JD is celebrating his label's legacy by putting on a one-day concert in Atlanta on Saturday (Feb. 23). The majority of So So Def's biggest artists will hit the stage, including Da Brat, Xscape, Kris Kross, Bow Wow and many more.
"I felt it in my gut that it was supposed to happen. It was time to take place," JD continued, about the anniversary concert. "The interesting part about this show is that it's the first concert where every record that's performed is a No. 1 record. Every artist has had a hit on So So Def will be on the bill."
So So Def is behind a countless number of memorable R&B and hip-hop songs, from INOJ's "Love You Down" to Da Brat's "Funkdafied." Watch as Jermaine Dupri takes us down memory lane and tells us how 10 top So So Def hits came to be.
