Relapse Records has released a tribute sampler with proceeds set to benefit the daughter of Pat Egan, the metal indie label's Director of Sales and Marketing who passed away on Monday from pneumonia-related complications.
The Philadelphia based company assembled a compilation of tracks from bands who, as many industry folks who knew Egan told Billboard yesterday, benefitted from the gregarious salesman's deep passion for metal music. 100% of the proceeds will go toward a college fund for Egan's teenaged daughter, Katie. Each band involved has agreed to waive royalties for the tracks, which are being offered via Bandcamp for a suggested minimum donation of $5.
The tribute sampler includes songs from past and present Relapse artists including Baroness, Red Fang, Revocation, Toxic Holocaust, metal-loving standup comedian Brian Posehn and Pig Destroyer, among others.
Brann Dailor, drummer for Mastodon (who contributed "Mother Puncher" to the compilation), shared his thoughts on Egan's passing in a statement to Billboard.biz: "Pat was one of the most passionate metal heads we have ever had the pleasure to work with. It was that same passion that drove him to fight as hard as he could for the bands he loved and worked with. He definitely played a huge role in the success of Mastodon and for that we are eternally grateful. We are so sad to hear of his passing. We know he had a wife and daughter that he loved very much. He talked about them all the time. We're gonna miss hanging with him and hearing all the concert stories he had. I'm pretty sure he had seen any band of importance over the last 30 years at least 5 times. Our hearts go out to his friends and family."
In addition to Katie, Egan is survived by his wife, Melinda.
Services will be held Friday, February 22 at New York's Lindenhurst Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations toward his daughter’s college fund, care of:
