A weekend geared toward celebrating President Barack Obama hit a sour note on Sunday night (Jan. 21), as rapper Lupe Fiasco performed a long song that criticized the president at an unofficial inaugural ball.
The Grammy-nominated rapper from Obama's home city of Chicago, who was the main act at the StartUp RockOn concert-party, used the stage to complain about the administration's drone warfare program, and state that he did not vote for Obama. Performed as one long song, including lyrics from "Words I Never Said," it was greeted harshly by the partisan crowd, and led to organizers ushering the show on to the next performer.

"[Rush] Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist," he rapped. "Gaza Strip was getting bombed, Obama didn't say shit. That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either."
"Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned," the event's organizers said in a statement. "But Lupe Fiasco was not 'kicked off stage' for an 'anti-Obama rant.' We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act."
The event, which was held at The Hamilton in Wasington, DC, was thrown by StartUp RockOn, which supports entrepreneurs and tech startups.
Lupe Fiasco has never been one to hold back his views, especially those pertaining to politics and President Obama. During an appearance on CBS' "What's Trending" in summer 2011, Lupe Fiasco called President Obama " the biggest terrorist " of the U.S.
"I've got nothing to clarify. It's Obama and the U.S. government," Lupe told Billboard, echoing his former comments. "[It's] every president that came before him and every president that comes after him.
Lupe Fiasco's performance at the partisan event included rhymes from his controversial "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1" song, "Words I Never Said": "Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist/ Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn't say shit/ That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either/ I'ma part of the problem, my problem is I'm peaceful/ And I believe in the people."
Days before performing (Jan. 17), Lupe took to Twitter to announce that his upcoming album, "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 2" will not be released as planned.
"Hello. A decision has been made that the project titled 'F&L2 Part 2' will be summarily cancelled for public release in 2013… The title/concept for Lupe's 2013 release will be revealed later this year," he tweeted before deleting the tweets and closing his account.
