Warner Music Group (WMG) yesterday (March 24) filed an action seeking a declaratory judgment against Madonna's label Maverick Records, a source confirms.

The action, filed in a Delaware court and sealed from the public, was lodged in anticipation of a breach-of-contract suit Maverick reportedly plans in file today in L.A. Superior Court, seeking termination of its 11-year-old joint venture with WMG.

The companies have been in a protracted dispute about the valuation of the 60% interest in Maverick held by principals Madonna and Guy Oseary, as they have sought to sell their share of the label to WMG.

A WMG spokesman had no comment.
