Looney Tunes, a 35 year old independent record store on Long Island, was destroyed in a fire last night. In addition to selling albums and a variety of music-related merchandise, the store also hosted a number of high profile in-store appearances, such as Ice T, Ozzy Osbourne, and Staind, whose 2001 rooftop in-store performance attracted 7,500 fans to the store. First opened by Karl Groeger in 1971, Looney Tunes was most recently run by his sons Karl Jr and Jaime.
Arson investigators have declared the cause of the fire to be a faulty extension cord. The store's owners say they intend to rebuild and reopen as soon as possible.
