Music Widget Company Gets $2 Million Boost

Submitted by admin on Tue, 2008-07-29 00:00

Ad-supported music widget company TrueAnthem [1] raised $2 million in seed funding from unnamed investors.

The San Francisco-based company went live this April, creating and distributing artist-based music widgets that allow fans to stream and download music.

Each widget can be sponsored by an advertiser, with the artist getting a share of the proceeds. Songs can be downloaded either free (with a permanently embedded audio ad attached to each single) or purchased for 99-cents, depending on the artists' wishes.

Participating artists to date include Ultraviolet Sound and Hootie & the Blowfish. It has distributed some 5,000 widgets, and has an ad partnership with Adidas.
