Singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding has come top of the BBC Sound of 2010 survey, which polls 165 critics, broadcasters and bloggers to identify the U.K.'s rising stars.
Goulding, who combines folk and electronica, has already won a BRIT award, taking the Critics' Choice honor ahead of the ceremony in February. Her debut album "Lights" (Polydor) is released on March 1.
Previous winners include Little Boots, Adele, Mika and Corinne Bailey Rae.
"I didn't expect to get anywhere a few years ago," said Goulding in a statement. "I didn't even expect to have a record deal, let alone be put in such a prestigious thing so I'm very happy. I think the list this year is great and I really believe in a lot of the acts."
Pop act Marina and the Diamonds made No. 2 in the poll, followed by Dephic at No. 3, Hurts at No. 4 and the Drums at No. 5.
